The Five Senses and What They Are Used For

From the moment that a child enters school they are taught the concept of the five senses. The five senses are things that just about every individual, unless they have a medial condition are, are born with. The five senses are important in the way that many humans beings function and live their lives.

Sight is one of the five senses that many individuals are born with. As previously stated there may be a medical condition that can prevent an individual from effectively using one of their five senses. In the case of sight it is common for an individual to experience a number of vision problems. These vision problems may result in blurred vision or complete blindness.

A large portion of the world would not be able to complete their daily activities without their sight. Seeing makes it possibly people to work, cook, drive their vehicles, and explore. It is possible for people experiencing vision problems or blindness to survive; however, it often takes a large amount of training and assistance from others.

Hearing the another one of the five senses. Hearing is done through the ear. Hearing makes it possible for a large number of individuals to listen to music, television, or have speaking conversations with others. As with the other five senses hearing is something that is developed right at birth.

A birth defect, illness, or physical injury may cause damage to an ear. When damage occurs to an ear it is possible that an individual may have a difficult time hearing what someone says or they may become completely deaf. Deafness is when an individual is unable to hear any words that may be spoken to them. Sing language and closed captioned television has made it possible for a number of people with hearing problems to enjoy the same activities of everyone else.

Although all of the five senses are important touch is extremely important. The touching sense is the feeling that we get when we touch a particular object. The touching sense makes it possible for individuals to tell when items are too hot or too cold. Touch also makes it possible for an individual to feel pain. Although pain may be difficult to deal with it is often used to determine if an individual is injured or suffering a health problem.

One of the five senses that may actually be considered a luxury is that of smell. Human beings are able to smell with their nose. It is common for individuals to be able to smell their surroundings such as the air in an outside environment. Smelling can also alert an individual to any potential dangers including that of a fire. The majority of individuals enjoy the sense of smelling and take advantage of it by using air fresheners or scented candles.

The tongue and taste buds are used to make the last of the five senses possible. Taste is something that many individuals experience. Taste alerts us to items that may be sweet, sour, or bitter tasting. Taste may allow many individuals to develop a like or dislike of certain foods. The majority of individuals have the tasting sense; however, some may have a stronger taste than others.

The five senses are truly amazing. It is possible for a number of individuals to successfully live without a few of the above mentioned senses; however, the majority of individuals are able to experience all of the five senses and the advantages that come along with them.
