The Character of Captain Hook

Whether you are an senior citizen, an adult, a child, or a teenager you have likely heard of Captain Hook before. Captain Hook is a well known character in many books, movies, plays, and comic strips. Captain Hook is most often associated with the fairytale story of Peter Pan.

Peter Pan is a fictional story about a little boy named Peter Pan. Peter Pan lives in Neverland with the Lost Boys. Peter Pan refused to grow up and the Lost Boys, Tinkerbell, and Peter Pan regularly went on magically adventures. In addition to the magical adventures Peter Pan often ran into Captain Hook.

Captain Hook lost his arm after Peter Pan cut it off. At that time a crocodile got a hold of his arm and as the story goes the crocodile liked the taste of Captain Hook so he would always following him around waiting for his opportunity to get more. Captain Hook’s lost arm was replaced with a hook.

For this reason Captain Hook always wanted Peter Pan and all of his friends to pay. The old Peter Pan play had Captain Hook commit suicide at the end of the story by jumping into the water much to the crocodile’s delight. Captain Hook took this option rather than die at the hands of Peter Pan.

Other books, especially those made for children, have adapted an alternative ending. This alternation ending is done on many famous fairy tales to make the stories more enjoyable for younger children. There were also multiple movies surrounding Captain Hook and Peter Pan that were developed for individuals of all ages.

In 1991 the film Hook was released. This film advanced to the present day where Peter Pan did end up growing up. He forgot about his childhood with his friends in Neverland. Captain Hook returns to kidnap the children of the adult Peter Pan. To save his children Peter Pan must return to the childhood that he forgot.

Disney produced an animated film version of Peter Pan. This version of Peter Pan closely followed the original, but it was also adapted for a younger audience. Captain Hook has also appeared in a number of other animated cartoon movies and television shows.

In addition to the Disney film mentioned above there are also a number of other Peter Pan style movies. These movies are often made without using the Disney made characters. The quality of these types of movies aren’t the greatest when compared to the Disney one; however, they do tell the story just about the same way.

Peter Pan movies and books can be purchased all around the world. These items are sold in most book stores, media stores, or over the internet. If you are a parent it is likely that you will be reading the story of Peter Pan and Captain Hook to your children multiple times throughout their lives.
