Computers and Educational Videos - Danger Versus Control

Although some educational experts, due the inherent dangers of computers and the Internet, have called for a moratorium on using computers with young children, this author contends it is all a matter of control. It is important to remember that computers are simply tools - just like books, pencils, or the television. And, just like any other tool, they can be misused or can be used in developmentally appropriate ways to benefit our children. Students need computer literacy, no doubt, but by using educational DVDs and video to control the content to which they are exposed while using the computer, teachers can reduce the danger factor.
