There are situations in life when you need to cut down on your expenses for different reasons, be it you are a student or you are short on cash and days away from your next paycheck. Food is not something that you can do without, but you can still make some savings by cooking some cheap meals, like the ones we are going to present below.
You can try lentil stew. You only need one package of lentils, some carrots and potatoes and water. Boil the lentils in water, then add the potatoes and the carrots, sliced in little pieces. You can spice it up with whatever you still have in the kitchen and the food is ready.
With a bag of potatoes you can cook a super meal. Bake them all, then add some topping, like butter, salt, pepper, sour cream or whatever strikes your fancy.
You can make some delicious cheese quesadillas using just flour tortillas and some cheese. Take two tortillas and heat them. Take one and put it on a plate, and the other top it with cheese and let it until the cheese has melted. Put the other tortilla on top and let them about a minute so they bind together. You can serve this dish with salsa.
Scrambled eggs is a very quick and delicious meal. They cost only about a dollar a dozen and the recipe is easy to make. Whisk the eggs in a bowl and then cook them in a skillet. Add some other things for flavor, like cheese, onion or mushrooms.
You can spend only two dollars for a package of spaghetti and a can of sauce. With a little parmesan cheese, there you have it, a cheap good meal.
Tuna sandwiches are very good when you are short on cash. Mix the tuna with mayonnaise or salad dressing, then spread it onto bread slices.
Grilled cheese sandwiches are also a good solutions. Put some butter on both sides of a slice of bread, then grill it. Put a slice of cheese on top and here is another cheap meal.
There are several other things that you can buy with little cash to add to your meals. Frozen vegetables can be bought for less than one dollar. Fresh vegetables are a good addition to sandwiches, too. For desert, it won't hurt to have some fruits on hand, like oranges or coconut.
Canned mushrooms are also good to have, as well as cake mixes and canned frosting.
These are not gourmet meals, but they will keep you fed well for just a few dollars.
